Clothing and beauty routines aside, having a signature scent can be seen as its very own kind of personal style. For some, a signature scent might be perfume they picked out in their youth and have been wearing ever since, while for others, finding ‘the one’ may have taken a little more trial and error. Either way, we all know there is an additional confidence boost that comes with layering on your favourite fragrance before heading out the door.

With this in mind, we turned to the team to find out which perfumes they are returning to again and again, asking them to share the scents that get them the most compliments. Below you’ll find a list spanning Melbourne-based brands like Ficifolia and Orbs Oils, luxury labels like Maison Margiela and Giorgio Armani, and gender neutral favourites like Maison Crivelli.

Keep scrolling to discover our highly recommended faves and potentially your next signature scent.

Maison Crivelli, Safran Secret Extrait de Parfum 50ml, $413

“I’ve already gone through a couple of bottles of this fragrance, which says it all! It’s my trusty go-to for any occasion and somehow works perfectly across every season. I always get compliments when I wear it, and being an extrait, it lingers beautifully on the skin and clothes.” - Tahnee, Partnerships Manager

Giorgio Armani, Sì Eau De Parfum 30ml, $144

“A few years ago, this scent was gifted to me by an ex. He was not a good boyfriend, but I have to admit, he did have good taste. While our relationship was short-lived, my love affair with this perfume is everlasting. I have repurchased it several times since, and I get compliments almost every time I wear it.” - Zoe A, Shopping Editor

Maison Crivelli, Hibiscus Mahajad 50 ml, $384

“My favourite perfumes are also the ones I always get complimented on, and I wouldn't say that's a coincidence! There's no better compliment, in my humble opinion, than being told you smell good. My all-time favourite, and dare I say signature scent, is Maison Crivelli's Hibiscus Mahajad. The girls always say they know I've arrived at the office because they can smell me before they've seen me!” - Georgina, Partnerships Exec

Ficifolia, Best In Show 100ml, $129

“My other current favourite is Ficifolia's Best In Show. I love anything vanilla-scented – my home needs to smell like vanilla at all times – and this one is top of the list at the moment. It's also from a local independent Melbourne brand, which makes me love it even more.” - Georgina, Partnerships Exec

Orbs Oils, River Fragrance Oil 30ml, $90.00

There's one perfume I always get compliments on when I wear it, without fail: River Fragrance Oil by Melbourne-based brand, Orb Oils. Strangers have chased me down the street, and baristas have made me write it down while I'm ordering my coffee because they were so taken with it. It's also the scent my boyfriend was most drawn to when we first started dating.” -  Cait, Newsletter Strategist

Maison Margiela, By The Fireplace 30ml, $135

“I have many favourite fragrances (I'm a fragrance freak!), but two classics I always come back to are By The Fireplace by Maison Margiela and Wonderwood by Comme des Garçons. They're both rich, woody scents and wear really well.” - Cait, Newsletter Strategist

Maison Louis Marie, No.04 Bois De Balincourt Eau De Parfum 50ml, $171

“Stole this from a friend who smelled amazing, since then four of us have bought it (which means our collective scent is overpowering when we all catch up)” - Dimity, Producer

Maison Margiela, Jazz Club EDT 30ml, $135

“I've been wearing Jazz Club for the past 3 years. When I find a scent I love, I stick with it – love its rich scent with long-lasting wear!” - Ruby, Podcast Producer and Host
