If you’ve ever been (or currently are!) pregnant, you may have ummed and ahhed about whether or not to invest in maternity jeans. Truth is, in recent years the staple has been perceived as somewhat ‘daggy’ or even uncool, with many pregnant women choosing to opt for unbuttoned jeans or low-rise trousers instead. But according to Zara McDonald, the groupthink has to stop. Maternity jeans deserve another chance, especially if you’re a woman on the shorter side.
“Low rise is not comfortable,” Zara explained on an episode of Shameless earlier this year. “Short girls like me cannot pull them off as well because we don’t have much leg. Women like me need maternity jeans, they are a thousand times more comfortable, and there are great ones.”
So, what exactly are the great ones Zara is talking about? Throughout her pregnancy, she relied on a cropped, flared pair from MNG and a slim-leg style from H&M, both of which come with over-the-belly waistbands for extra comfort.
But the maternity jean recommendations don’t stop there. Some maternity jean converts in our Style-ish community had suggestions, too. When the podcast episode discussing maternity jeans dropped, we had so many women in the comments sharing their favourite brands and styles. Ripe Maternity jeans were well-loved and often mentioned, while Bae the Label, Soon Maternity and Portier also got quite a few shoutouts. It’s clear maternity jeans are here to stay, especially for those of us who "don’t have much leg." Keep scrolling for the best maternity jeans.
